I'll never forget the journey I went through since 2008. I called the doctor in December 2007 regarding a pain on my right side that I
thought was my appendix acting up. After he did my exam, he ordered an ultrasound which showed a cyst twisted around my right ovary. He told
me surgery was the only option so after a cardiac clearance, I went in for a laparoscopy on February 1, 2008.
When I went in it was originally as an outpatient, but I found myself admitted. The doctor
didn't tell me that day, in fact waited until 5 days later to tell me what he found. He found a tumor on the left ovary that didn't show up
on the ultrasound, He immediately sent me to a GYN Oncologist who diagnosed me Feb. 14, 2008 with Ovarian Cancer.
What a Valentine's Day. She suggested a total hysterectomy so she could get biopsies done and give me the best chance of survival. So 3 weeks later, I found myself back in the OR with my friend and doctor William Bradford and my oncologist Jackie Evans.
5 years have passed, and without having chemo or radiation, due to my heart issues, I have been beating this monster. I am so grateful for everyone who has supported me through this journey and continues to be my cheering section. This journey has shown me that I'm stronger than I ever thought I was. I am continuing the fight against cancer and my heart disease and will continue to bring attention to finding cures for both.
