Persevering with Cancer

by gabeallen

The negativity from cancer can be a difficult thing to overcome. Watch as Greg Pierce , WhatNext's Community Manager, talks about how having a positive mental attitude is one of the most important things you can have during your fight against cancer.

A positive attitude has never killed a single cancer cell, as far as I know, but since we are going to have to go through everything that we have to anyway, we can either go through it with a positive outlook or a negative outlook. What's the difference? Looking at the negative side of everything won't make anything any better. It won't make the side effects go away, it won't make your diagnosis go away, being negative and worrying about everything only robs you of today's peace.

Being positive isn't going to cure it, or help the side effects either, but since we are going to have to do this anyway, try to find the silver lining in every situation. As the quote says, "there's always something to be thankful for". Sometimes it's a little tougher to find those things, but there is always something, and there is always someone who has things worse than you do.

Those who worry about all of the "what ifs" and tend to look at the negative side of everything in life also tend to have more stress, be overall less healthy, and suffer from more mental issues than those who tend to be more positive. Never underestimate the power of a positive attitude!
