    Double Mastectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

The double mastectomy took place 11/5/12. Dec 11 I met with my oncologist who gave me the wonderful news that I would not need chemotherapy or radiation. However, she was concerned with the redness of my left expander and sent me to my plastic surgeon. After testing, I ended up back in surgery on 12/14 to remove the left expander. I am now lopsided, not sure when the expander will be replaced and heading back to work on 1/2. Has anyone been through a similar situation and can you tell me how long it was until the expander was replaced? My plastic surgeon said that infection within the expander is not uncommon. Thank you.
