    Robotic assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

Surgery was recommended for severe pain due to endometriosis with only a 5% chance of cancer. The biopsy during the surgery showed cancer in my uterus and damage to my ovaries, so those were removed as well.

    Diagnosed

    Oh No

When I woke up from surgery, I was told that I had cancer in my uterus. However, two weeks later, the pathologist reported it started in the ovaries. My case was sent to a second pathologist who confirmed it began in the ovaries.

    Bowel obstruction

    Side Effects

I don't know if it was the anesthesia, morphine, or Percocet, but five days after surgery I had an impacted bowel. Though it was very stressful, I managed to take care of it at home.

    Infection

    Side Effects

I had an infected abscess from the surgery, which caused a fever. However, my surgeon thought it was a UTI. When oral antibiotics didn't work and my fever spiked, I was sent to the ER and remained in the hospital for five days. The CT scan confirmed the infected abscess. I was given 5 different IV antibiotics and was sent home with two additional oral antibiotics. Side effects of the IV antibiotics were nausea and diarrhea. Side effects of the oral antibiotics were diarrhea, flu-like symptoms, nausea, vomiting, and a metallic taste. Two days after finishing the oral antibiotics, I felt much better.

    Implant chemotherapy port

    Procedure or Surgery

Although the procedure and recovery went smoothly, the port's tube still hurt especially at my collar bone. Ok, I talked to a nurse about this today. It seems that this is common for people on the thinner side. I don't have the fat tissue that would normally be keeping the tube from pushing against my collar bone.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I had chemotherapy for the first time today (01/09/13). It went more smoothly than I had ever anticipated. Yes, I realize I'm on medications to avoid side effects and that I might have serious side effects tomorrow or four days from now, but I'm just happy to have the first cycle complete and without harm.

    Removal of chemotherapy port

    Procedure or Surgery

I felt very strongly about having the port removed - even if I need another one implanted in three months.
