    Diagnosed

    Oh No

My mom was admitted to the hospital with what the doctors believed to be a bowel obstruction in April. After 16 days in the hospital and surgery to remove 2.5 ft of her colon, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer that had metastasized to her liver.

    Implant chemotherapy port

    Procedure or Surgery

When moms port was inserted, she suffered a collapsed lung. This was a brutal punch during an already difficult time and the first time in the process to this point that I actually saw her break down.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

We were all terrified and had no idea what to expect. Visited and researched two respected treatment centers in our area and mom made her choice. My brother and I went with her to her first treatment and one of us has been there for every one since with the exception of two when her sister took her. We are all surprised at how we settled into such a routine for her treatments. We laugh and make it as bearable as possible. A sense of humor and our open approach has helped us all.

    Nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy)

    Side Effects

14 treatments in, this is the latest side effect that we are researching. Otherwise, Moms results have been amazing. From 50+ lesions on both lobes of her liver, she now has 3 measurable lesions. She had Radio Frequency Ablation on two spots last month. Knocking wood, crossing fingers and, as always, praying that she continues to do well.
