    Procedure or Surgery

Had surgery June 30, 2010. Luckily growth was encapsilated. Was in hospital 3 days. Looked and felt like XXX. I was fortunate enough to have my 3 children, fiance, and friends there to take care of me and support me. First month of recovery was rough but was back teaching in Sept. January 2011- 6 month check-up. Had blood work and cat scan. Everything was fine. August 2011- year checkup. Had ultrasound. Right kidney actually had grown which is good. Doc said that was unusual in adults and usually only happens with children. Guess I'm just a big kid- :) Will go back in 6 months for another check-up. Turns out that pain that I initially had in May 2010 had nothing to do with my kidney cancer. That turned out to be arthritis in my lower back on the opposite side. I had no symptoms. Just glad my fiance pestered me to see my doctor or who knows where I would be ?

    Diagnosed

    Oh No

In May 2010, I had been experiencing pain in my lower back(right side.) After 2 weeks, I went to my doctor to get checked. I had blood in my urine and he thought I may have kidney stones. As was traveling to my son's graduation in Savannah, Ga. within the next several days, doc wanted me to have a cat scan that night. They discovered a growth the size of a man's fist in my right kidney. Had an MRI the next day for further investigation. Went to a urologist/surgeon, Dr. Troy Sukkarieh, in Morganville, NJ (excellent) and he said I would need to have my kidney removed. As I am a school teacher, I finished out the school year and on June 30, 2010, I had the surgery.
