    Cancer has spread/Metastasized

    Oh No

The pre-surgery scan showed spread. My God. It was as if everything had been for nothing. And, what made the most angry is the scan was scheduled LAST in the pre-surgery requirements, so a week was spent doing stress tests and lung capacity screening and so on, only to find it was all for nothing. Nothing at all.

    Procedure or Surgery

Now it's real. There's no removing this, just as there's no removing the cancer.

Stay with the original treatment team? Or move on?

    Decision Point

The original treatment team's entire approach changed when surgery was no longer an option. It was as if the patient had been written off. So now what? Is the patient, in fact, as good as dead? Or is there someone else out there?

    Cancer is shrinking

    Celebration

Second scan during phase two treatment again showed marked improvement, again a scan better then the doctor hoped to see.

Need to have dental work, treatment has to stop.

    Decision Point

Had to take a break from active treatment so counts would recover enough to have a bad tooth pulled. It all went well.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Nerve-based side effects are getting worse, numbness/tingling, will have to take a break and see if they reduce or not.

First scan under new treatment was, to quote the doctor "... better than I would have ever hoped for..."

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

A new course of chemo has started. First it was the pre-surgery mix, then it was the no-surgical option mix (which did wonderful things for six months), now it's the next version. The doctor says he has three or four more tricks up his sleeve, if not more.

    Oh No

The scan after a five week break came back so-so in terms of facts, but very confusing. Some areas are incredibly better, some are the same as before, one is much worse, and there are new spots. How can it be better yet worse?
