Whether or not to have surgery

    Decision Point

Found a lump in my throat in January 2011, a month and a half after giving birth. Doctors initially treated me for bronchitis. When that didn't help, doctors began testing my TSH levels which seemed normal. My PCP sent me to an endocrinologist, who performed a biopsy. Results came back abnormal at which time I requested a second biopsy. Results then came back normal. My endocrinologist performed an ultrasound and suggested surgery due to the size of my goiter, roughly 3cm. I consulted with the head/neck surgeon who told me surgery wasn't a 'rush' but did want me to have it removed within the next 6 months to avoid it growing any more and causing damage to my wind pipe and vocal chords.
