Stay in Florida and receive treatment or move back to Wisconsin near family....

    Decision Point

Well moved back at first was supposed to be temp but my wife loves the area and the cold (blah) anyway turned out to be the best decision. FL they wanted to do radiation, in WI went with the chemo and seems to have worked.

    Cancer has spread/Metastasized

    Oh No

Had a scan 3 months ago and 5 spots in the chest area have been found. Good news was 1. it's very slow growing and 2. We finally after 2 years got the slides of the original tumor and my KRAS is Neg so we can now add a new drug to the mix.

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

5th treatment finished now the side effects start. Good thing they cut my steroids in half, I no longer feel like so aggressive. But the side effects are a bit worse now. Good news is the tumor on my neck is very small compared to when I first started this round of treatments.

    Shortness of breath

    Side Effects

Had to delay starting chemo, with Dr's approval for 3 months to move our household here from FL. All the while I was in FL I was sick with flu like symptoms and shortness of breath. Good news is the closer to home the better I felt. See the Dr tomorrow and I'll find out what the plan is. Found a lymph node on my neck and had a biopsy which came back as cancer. Dr told me that he has family members with colon cancer fighting it for 15 years and it seems that the ones with wide spread mets survive longer. Had a scan last week and seems the cancer hasn't grown any. Side note Dr thinks my shortness of breath is a panic attack Hmmm what was there to panic about?

    Symptom Management

All tests are done and the cancer has gotten bigger. My voice is gone seems the tumor in my right side lung has gotten bigger and pressing on the nerve to my left vocal cord paralyzing it. Good thing is I can have surgery to fit that. Which is scheduled for the end of the month. We are putting off chemo for 2 weeks so I can get radiation treatments. 10 low doses over 2 weeks to shrink the tumors, one on my neck and several in my right lung. After that we will be going to a different cocktail of chemo drugs one targeted towards the "wild type" of colon cancer. If it works I have a skin rash and pimples to look forward to. One thing I hate hearing is we are doing this to give you "quality of life" makes it sound like we've given up your going to die from this but we'll make your days as pain free as we can. I don't like that since I hope to be around for sometime. Of course that is always in God's hands. I'm still walking around somewhat pain free on the outside you'd never know I have cancer. Well next week I step into the nuclear age starting a new adventure in the fight against cancer.

    External radiation

    Radiation

Today I'm about half way thou my radiation treatments. I've done 7 out of the 15. Side effects have started fatigue, sore throat, loss of taste and appetite, dry mouth along with the thick secretions (mucus). Along with all that I broke a cap on one tooth this weekend, eating ice cream of all things.

    Radiation

Tomorrow is my last radiation treatment! There was a change in the number of treatments from 10 to 15 low doses, which seems to have worked out for the better. I've lost little over 20 lbs, have a real tough time swallowing anything, tired a lot also. But the good thing is the the tumor on my neck is almost gone so having to put up all that plus the thick phlegm in my mouth is worth it. Monday I have a CT scan of my neck and chest area to see what the radiation has done for all of those tumors. Tuesday I see my chemo Dr and start back on chemo but with a couple of new drugs. Put off the operation for my voice so the epoxy they planned on using wouldn't change the plan of the radiation and where it hit.
