In fall 2010 I went to the ENT doc, Dr. Hagen, (St Joseph, MO) for a sinus infection. During the exam he found the nodules. I am so grateful I went to see Dr. Hagen and he gave me a good exam. First step he sent me for an ultrasound and the nodules showed up. Then he sent me to an ENDO doctor in St Joseph MO where I live. Dr. Hagen said I needed a fine needle biopsy. The ENDO Dr. Yang, he sent me to said I didn't need a FNB at this time and he would just watch the nodules for a few months and then decide what to do. I immediately found a doctor in Kansas City, MO about 50 miles south and went for the FNB. The biopsy showed cancer. I had surgery in March 2011 by wonderful Dr. Tumanut, he had to remove my whole thyroid. I never lost my voice and felt so good after the surgery. At this time the scar is not noticeable. I started the RAI shortly after. I just finished my 3rd RAI and the endo, Dr Bell in KCMO said I could come back and see her in a year and RAI again in 2 years. Very happy with the report and glad I went to Kansas City for a second opinion. By the way it was stage 1, if I had waited a few months like Dr Yang said, who knows what would have happened.
