    Internal radiation

    Radiation

I had a month of radiation as the initial phase of my treatment. It did no good, but gave me a nice little radiation burn that went away fairly quickly.

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

I had a nephrectomy that removed my left kidney with the primary tumor in it. Shortly afterward I passed a kidney stone (I have a history of this.).

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I started with Sutent and transitioned to Torisel, neither of which seemed to do anything. I'm currently on Inlyta, two pills a day, and a monthly injection of Xgeva (sp?). I have had no side effects, but nothing has done anything so far. I've only been on the Inlyta and Xgeva for a couple of weeks, so they have yet to be evaluated.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I took Inlyta for two months along with a monthly injection of Xgeva. After two months I had an MRI, CT scan, and Bone Scan. These showed increased metastases, especially on my spine. The only good news was that my original metastatic tumor, the one that had been irradiated, showed no growth. My next step is radiation of several of the metastases that are on my spine, especially one that is growing inwards toward the spinal canal.

    Lumbar Laminotomy

    Procedure or Surgery

Alongside my cancer I also have spinal stenosis. Beginning a few weeks after my nephrectomy I had a lumbar laminotomy whose effects are difficult to define. There is something wrong with my hips. They give me a lot of pain when I move and sometimes at other times. In addition to the laminotomy, I have been getting steroid injections in my spine that are supposed to at least help with my pain. So far, they haven't helped much and my mobility is much compromised by the pain. I use a cane and a walker to help reduce the pain when I walk. They are somewhat effective.
