    Diagnosed

    Oh No

I was dealing with having a colonoscopy because I had just turned 50 in November 2010. The knot was found in October 2010, made appointment November and further appointment (ultrasound). While this is going on the week of Thanksgiving I am having a colonoscopy. December 3, 2010 Diagnosed with Breast Cancer, not prepared at all. They did not get it all so I had to go back into surgery again to get the lymph nodes. They did 2 lumpectomies and removed 23 lymph nodes. They still did not have clear margins. I had 10 lymph nodes that were positive and my worst fears was that it could be in my colon. Got those test back and I am good in the colon area but not in the breast. Now my decision was to decide what I and where. The whole time my husband is overseas working. My husband came home on December 22, 2010 and vowed not to go back. We were now living on a wing and prayer. The last week of December I made my decision to go MD Anderson because I needed the best. I had my first appointment and alot of test run the first week of January 2011, diagnosed with Stage III HER2/NUE Positive Breast Cancer. My doctor assured me that we were going to beat this and I was very confident also.

    Procedure or Surgery

I had my Port put in at the end of January 2011 because I had no veins left to stick.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I was started on Chemo first because of not having clear margins and already having two surgeries. I started with 12 sessions of Taxol/Herceptium. In April I started the Red Devil with the others and that was not very successful. Had to stop in May 2011.

    External radiation

    Radiation

Now that was an experience! The first day I listened to other ladies tell their stories and what might happen to me. I wasn't suppose to burn until the 3rd week, but because of my fair skin I burned on the first week. The staff was extremely helpful and nice, but the everyday trip was wearing on me. I didn't think I would see the end. Well after 6 weeks, skin falling off and being in terrible pain it was over and I rang my bell for radiation. The darkening area still remains.

    Allergic reaction

    Side Effects

Allergic reaction to tape of almost anykind. Big huge water blisters form and my skin comes off. The only tape that doesn't break me out so far is the tape they use to hold the needle in at my port.

    Bladder problems

    Side Effects

Everytime I have a Herceptium treatment I end up with a urinary tract infection. Been on antibiotics and AVOS almost the entire time. The only time I really received a break was in May, June and July.

    Other

    Side Effects

I just decided to put all of mine under other! There are so many. Your skin and everything you have on your body changes, but not your soul. I was going to save my heart but that even changed with complications. I lost my hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, nose hairs (very important and when you don't have them it's bad), swelling all over, toenails coming off and oozing, fingernails are like paper thin, a constant cough that never leaves, FATIGUE, nausitated, DIARRAHea, headaches and every bone in my body hurts at times.

    Mastectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

Mastectomy done June 6, 2011 because I couldn't finish my chemo treatments because of heart failure. What a shock that was, but it was necessary. The worst part was the bags for drainage....
