    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Went for a mammogram, got called for a second one, then a biopsy, an appointment with Dr. Donna to hear her say "we have a cancer"!

    Lumpectomy, mastectomy, reconstruction, clinical trial

    Decision Point

This was all too much at one time plus knowing I had to find a doctor I trusted.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I had chemotherapy of 5 FU and Cytoxan . They screwed with my blood counts and I ended up with one transfusion and several rounds of bone twisting, painful Neupogin shots. I had trush in my mouth 3 different times and spent most of the time nauseated. I had managed to find a wonderful oncologist who did anything he could to help and a pharmacist who would open in the middle of the night if I needed something. Two of my daughters couldn't handle me like this and going bald, one didn't live here so that left me with my youngest daughter, son in law and 3 grandkids. I had no one else to talk to so they were a God send.

    Mastectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

I was allowed to stay in the hospital 24 hours. Thank God my husband was a paramedic because I came home with massive bandages, two catheters in to drain fluids and pain pills to knock out a horse. I could not even get to the bathroom alone and that is not what they had prepared me for.
