    Health insurance issue

    Oh No

Going back to the insurance issue. We were able to qualify through our hospital district policy," MOPED", it is funded by the hospital district with related Federal funds. The only expense is co-pay for perscriptions, 10 to 15$' per order. I am able to get 2nd opinions but not allowed treatment outside the purvey of the hospital or it's attending facilities. It did take about 2 months for the okay, but during that time I was not denied any tests. Cyber Knife completed last week for the brain mets and now Chemo starts Tues. for the lungs.

    Laser surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

I was told last Monday that I was going to have this procedure to treat 5 small tumors on my brain, then deal with the lung cancer via Chemo once that has been cleared up. Has anyone undergone this procedure, if so, what was it like during and after, and what was the outcome? I am concerned about the lung cancer still metastasising through my system but was assured that the brain and lungs could not be treated simultaneously. I underwent Cyber Knife last friday 04/07/13, 3,1/2 hours on the table, no sedative, if there is a next time, certainly will take some, not due to pain only the discomfort of staying bone still that long. After the proceedure, feeling absolutely like I felt before the treatment, no side effect at all save a small change in the tone of my voice, slightly raspy, gone now this Monday. Onc told me he is sure he got at least 95 to 99% of the tumors, scheduled me for a MRI the first week of May for a follow up. I was told to set up an appoinment today with my other Onc to schedule a visit to discuss my Chemo for the NSCLC, I hope to start that process this week.

    Cyber Knife brain tumors

    Procedure or Surgery

I drove myself home after 3 1/2 hours of Cyberknife treatment. Starting Chemo next week. I asked my Onc, why not Cyber on my lungs, not a really good answer from him, I will ask my Rad Onc. Seems the Thoracic Onc has not really thought it out.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I recieved my first infusion today, Avastin, Alimta and Carboplatin. About 3 hrs total with the IV's through a port. Very nice room, comfortable club chairs with t.v.'s attached and doting, attentive nursing staff. A landscaped secluded outdoor lounging area as well. I was finished the treatment at 2:30 PM today, it is now 10:PM and not a hint of a side effect, I have not stopped eating, 2 packs of trail mix, 2 packs of chocolate covered raisins and that was on the 15 minute drive home, a chicken shish kebop with mushroom orzo, 10 chocolate chip cookies with maple nut ice cream and a little later on tonight I had a sirloin chedder cheese burger with steak fries and a big salad. I just finished another bowl of ice cream. I am waiting now for the other shoe to drop maybe later tonight or in the next day or so. This is just too good, it is so wildly contrary to my expectations, even my most optimistic thoughts have been defeated. We shall see, I'll post any new developments.
