    Other Care

Blood work in Dec. 4.2 psa; two weeks later 3.5 (6 months prior also 3.5) - doc decided on PSA free test indicating followup with possible biopsy. Hubby has been checking PSA and rate of increase for many years. January 29, 2013 biopsy.

    Cancer diagnosed!

    Oh No

Call from the urologist on Feb. 7. Six of the 12 samples taken during biopsy were cancerous (a 7th pre). MRI scheduled to check on any spread outside of prostate.

    Decision Point

MRI results look good - cancer should be confined inside prostate. Right in the middle of care - either prostectomy or radiation should work. Leaning toward Cyberknife. Anyone have Cyberknife done? Looks like a good process compared to all the other radiation treatments.

    Other

    Procedure or Surgery

Decided to go with Cyberknife for prostate radiation. Had procedure to put markers into prostate (similar process to biopsy but only 4 pokes). A week later, had a CT and MRI done. This data used to lay out plan for radiation therapy using markers to know where prostate is. Scheduled for 5 session of cyberknife therapy beginning March 26.

    Cyberknife

    Procedure or Surgery

SS, went through the 5 Cyberknife treatments: Tue, Thur, Mon, Wed, Fri. - end of March and beginning of April - had to have light diet night before procedures - enema hour before each procedure - Also taking 2x day a nutritional supplement (which may have been key in his feeling better) - Flomax at night since treatments started
