    Colon surgery (colectomy or hemicolectomy)

    Procedure or Surgery

Dr. Andrew Richards, my colon surgeon, did a fantastic job. I was lucky in that the colon tumor was easily operable. I did not need a colostomy. I did have a Foley catheter for about two weeks: the colon had impinged the bladder and the bladder required resection. I also had to do deal with a Jackson-Pratt drain. This is a bulb using simple suction that drains the blood and liquids that accumulate after a colon or lower GI resection. They were removed two weeks after the surgery. While the Foley wasn't too bad coming out, the JP drain was very painful, but only for a very short time. The incision was bothersome because it was located in such a way that my pant's belt lay directly over it. It took almost two months for that irritation to pass.

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

This is the price to you pay when you battle cancer. I highly suggest the use of a mediport. Did not allow just any doctor to perform the procedure. You want a doctor who is a member of the radiology department who performs this procedure on a regular basis.

    Cancer has spread/Metastasized

    Oh No

Was one of those lucky ones who get colon cancer anytime (prior to age 50). Had the cancer long enough that it metastisized into the liver.
