Diagnosed
Oh No
May 2010...heard those 3 dreaded words...you have cancer.
Chemotherapy
Drug or Chemo Therapy
Began chemotherapy on June 23, 2010. Lost all my hair, my appetite, my everything....
Double Mastectomy
Procedure or Surgery
December 29, 2010...double mastectomy, sentinal node biopsy, reconstruction.
Breast Reconstruction (Implant)
Procedure or Surgery
After 12 weeks of having the expanders filled to the size that I chose, I had the actual 650 ml implants inserted on May 10, 2010.
Sentinel lymph node biopsy
Procedure or Surgery
5 nodes were removed and 3 still had cancer.
Decision Point
Because I had completed chemo and responded well to the treatment (tumors had disappeared), my doctor was surprised to find that 3 of the 5 nodes that he removed still had cancer. He suggested radiation. After lots of prayer and having my case presented in front of the "tumor board", I chose to decline radiation and move along with the reconstruction.
Breast Reconstruction (Flap)
Procedure or Surgery
Began reconstruction with the latissimus dorsi flap procedure and expanders.
Nipple reconstruction
Procedure or Surgery
Chose to have the nipple reconstructed on October 3, 2011. Easy...Peasy!!
