    Procedure or Surgery

I recently (March 2013) read an article about the importance of receiving care from cancer specialists and I feel very confident knowing I did just that. If you are uninsured, PLEASE do not let that deter you from getting the care you need to save your life. I was uninsured and had just become unemployed when I went to the ER...the ER doc told me to stay and contacted a surgeon to speak with me. A Patient Advocate met with me while I was still in the hospital and scheduled a phone appointment with Social Security for me. Once I opened up to the possibility of getting things taken care of, it all seemed to fall into place. Fight for your life!

    Implant chemotherapy port

    Procedure or Surgery

This procedure RECOVERY was much worse than I expected it to be, especially since I'd recently undergone a complete hysterectomy. However, I consider it somewhat of an anomaly since I've never had a bad reaction to anesthesia. Anyhow, in the beginning, even though I was quite aware that I had a foreign object in my "chest," I have NEVER regretted having a port inserted especially as opposed to having multiple hour sessions of IV chemotherapy infused through a vein in my arm! It was enough that I had to undergo weekly blood draws through my arm veins. PLEASE BE SURE TO ALTERNATE ARMS when undergoing weekly blood draws and drink lots of water the night before, so that your veins will be plump.
