    Debulking surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

Before the surgery, my gyn onc gave me the possibility that he may be able to save my fertility. I even spoke with an endocrinologist on the day of the surgery with my boyfriend about possible harvesting of eggs in best case scenario. Unfortunately, that was not an option when they did the surgery. Although I am so happy that everything went well with the surgery and I can move towards chemotherapy and remission, that has been the saddest news so far.

    Other

    Procedure or Surgery

I had a CT after my third cycle that showed hydronephrosis. My oncologist placed bilateral ureteral stents. Since it was done under anesthesiology, I thought I would be out of it for the real pain and I would wake up feeling fine. To my surprise, I spent all weekend with pretty bad back pain and soreness around my urethra. Thankfully, it is finally starting to subside and I only had to delay my chemo cycle by one week.

    Chemo cycle 5 delayed

    Oh No

I had to stop my chemo treatment today after my doctor saw that my creatinine was elevated. Renal ultrasound shows hydronephrosis of the left kidney, even with a stent in place. Waiting to find out what doctor plans to do. My oncologist is on vacation, so under care of his partner right now. It is so surreal because I feel great and hate to delay my chemo. I know I should be grateful that my team is putting my safety first and making sure I do not go into renal failure, but it is still frustrating to go off course.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Just realized I never put my chemo on my journey! Started with cisplatin/taxol with combined IV and IP route in late March. Cisplatin caused nephrotoxicity, so I was switched to carboplatin after cycle 3. IP was discontinued after cycle 4 because my tumor markers remained high and my oncologist felt IV would better target any microscopic cancer cells in my pleural effusions. Planning to have at least 7 cycles, possibly 8.

    Engagement

    Celebration

My boyfriend of five years proposed on our anniversary! I feel crazy for planning a wedding while on active treatment with chemo, but I feel like my life will always have some uncertainty from now on, so might as well live and continue following my dreams while I can!

    Cancer has spread/Metastasized

    Oh No

I went into the hospital last week for neutropenic fevers. While there, my oncologist decided to get a petscan. Some of my abdominal lesions shrunk, but there are new areas of growth. My oncologist says this suggests that I am partially resistant to my current treatment - platinum and taxol agents. He is changing my chemo to Doxil and Avastin and says it willbe for 6 months. I guess this means I am now in refractory therapy.
