    Misdiagnosed

    Oh No

Rectal Bleeding was misdiagnosed as IBS. Ended up in ER with complete bowel obstruction. Even then, because I was only 39 years old and female they did not want to believe it was colon cancer. They kept telling me I was constipated for almost a week. I was dangerously distended and vomiting feces before they did exploratory surgery and removed a walnut sized grade 3 tumor from my sigmoid colon that metastasized to 1 lymph node.

    Colostomy

    Procedure or Surgery

This surgery was supposed to be a minor recurrence, detected by a colonoscopy, removing approximately 8 inches of my descending colon. Instead I woke up with a colostomy and told the cancer was too extensive for surgery and that I was inoperable.

I was told I was inoperable

    Decision Point

I didn't know what to do, so I kept searching until I found a way to become "operable" I had chemo and radiation pre-surgery and then under a clinical trial at Mayo I had very risky surgery and Inter Operative Radiation and then post-op chemo for 6 months.

Colonectomy, Psoas hitch of bladder to left, shortened left ureter (resected from tumor mass), removed left ovary, uterine fibroids, resected ileac vessels from tumor mass, removed 32 lymph nodes,

    Procedure or Surgery

My colostomy was changed to an ileostomy. After arriving home (I lived 6 hrs away). The small intestine ileostomy site abscessed and I came closed to death. I had another ileostomy performed.

    Problem with doctor

    Oh No

Nov 2012 Increased pain levels misinterpreted by nurse Practitioner as "Pill Seeking". From Nov 12 to Feb 13 this nurse went so far as to deny me access to Dr and try to send me to Pain Management without Dr's knowledge or my consent.

    Palliative Treatment or Clinical Trial

    Decision Point

I'm T4bN3M1 Advanced Recurrent Distant Metastasis. My current Dr (with the nurse from XXX) says "You'll be fine". Obviously I need to find a new practice to go to. Due to my extensive abdominal adhesions, abdominal surgery is not an option, besides that, it's too widespread. The big decision is TO HAVE CHEMO OR NOT and if so WHAT KIND.
