    Colon surgery (colectomy or hemicolectomy)

    Procedure or Surgery

Removal of tumor and lymph nodes. Most of the surgery was done laparoscopically - I have 3 small scars, an inch or less and one larger scar below my bikini line that is about 3 1/2 inches. I feel fortunate that my pain afterwards was minimal.

    Fatigue (tiredness)

    Side Effects

So far, after two treatments, the day of my disconnect is my really tired day. I wear a pump for two days after my initial bag of drugs. Also, have some tingling and reaction to cold in my hands for a few days.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Tuesday 4/9 Also had pre-meds of anti-nausea before bag of chemo. Interesting day. No immediate side effects other than the sensitivity to cold in my hands and throat. No iced drinks for a while or water ices or milk shakes. Go back on Thursday to have my pump disconnected. I am having some hair thinning. The dr says it should level off and I shouldn't lose much more. I suppose it's not too noticeable for those who don't know me well. Thinking of possible alternatives.

    Aggravation of TMJ

    Side Effects

Well, stress and other things have aggravated my TMJ. Can't open my jaw very far. Fortunately, I'm getting some relief at this point. Had a CT scan of my jaw - nothing unusual showed up, thank goodness. Just cutting up my food very small, eating soft foods, and drinking smoothies as well.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Treatment 3A (#5). Pleased to say this treatment was done in the two week period - no delay to low blood counts. My oldest daughter was in town so she went with me. More tingling in the hands this time and of course, the weather was cooler so that aggravated it when I was outside. All in all, happy to be moving on in the cycle!

    Nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy)

    Side Effects

Still working on getting my fingers and toes back to normal. I think there's some improvement since I finished chemo in August. Right now, my hands feel cold (although they're not when other people touch them!) and a little tingly. Feet are mostly tingly and numbish - feel like I'm walking on little wooden blocks. Mornings are worse and then things improve during the day.

    Clean colonoscopy

    Celebration

Celebrating my first clean colonoscopy one year after this process began. It was in January 2013 when the tumor was discovered during my first colonoscopy, which could not be completed, Feb 2013 since surgery, one year ago today when I started chemo, Aug 2013 when I finished chemo. I was apprehensive about today's results and I'm so thankful that this first hurdle behind me (ooh a little pun there :-) ) Please be sure to dress in blue on March 7, 2014 for Colon Cancer Awareness month.
