    Home care

    Other Care

Great homecare nurse who visited to help me with my ileostomy. She suggested I get my calf checked for DVT when I mentioned the pain. She was right! I did have DVT.

    Other

    Side Effects

Two weeks after my surgery, I was dx with DVT (deep vein thrombosis) in one of my calves. I started on coumidin but had an allergic reaction to it. I now do Lovenox self-injections everyday. I also had an issue with open wounds at my incision site, which I had to pack everyday - they took close to 2 months to finally heal.

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

I had lower back surgery in Nov. 2012 in the hopes of reversing the severe peripheral neuropathy I developed the previous year. It was not successful, and the cause of my PN was at that point attributed to the radiation treatments I received.

    Oh No

I worked throughout my treatments but side effects left me unable to work. I stopped working in August 2012, and spent the next 18 months waiting for SSDI to be approved. I nearly lost my home (exhausted my small retirement fund to keep the home).
