    Side Effects

I've had diarrhea since the first couple of days and it's been 4 weeks and I still have it. It doesn't happen after every meal..once maybe twice a day. I But my stomach doesn't feel bad...just running for the bathroom. I am taking tykerb pills daily with weekly infusions of herceptin and taxol. After 3 weeks my hair started to fall out so I shaved my head... It's only hair, it will grow back. My taste buds ate totally shot. Everything taste AWFUL!! Very hard to continue eating

the only thing I've had so far is the Port-A-Cath and I am so glad to have it. I am scheduled for double mastectomy on July 23rd

    Procedure or Surgery

I have elected to do chemo first then around week 12 have a double mastectomy along with lymph nodes removed then finish the 18 weeks of chemo. then 6 weeks of radiation.

    External radiation

    Radiation

I have had 7 rounds of radiation and can feel a little tightness. I am having to do the treatment using the breathing machine due to my heart being so close to my chest wall. When you inhale and hold your breath, your lungs fill up & pushes the heart back towards the spine & out of the way of the radiation. It is uncomfortable but I am very happy to have the technology to protect my heart! I have been using the aloe aid the nurse gave me and I've been looking for a beautiful design tattoo for the nipple reconstruction. I don't want just the regular nipples so if anyone has any experience with alternative nipple tattoos, please share! It's really early for that but I want plenty of time to find something I love love.

    Radiation

I am 1/2 way through my radiation treatments :) I am doing great so far....just a little tired. I've been keeping the aloe on the area and so far so good....only slightly pink. My heart is so close to my chest wall that I have to do the treatments while holding my breath. It's really not that bad once you get use to the tube, nose clips and machine noises. Last one will hopefully be 12/31/13 :) I have finished my radiation and now I am in the reconstruction phase. I've got the expanders put in at the same time of the double mastectomy. The PS has been filling them each month and everything is going very good. I plan on enjoying this summer since I was so sick last summer and then around November I will have my final reconstruction surgery.
