    Removal of rectal tumor

    Procedure or Surgery

The tumor was further down than the surgeon expected so I had to have a temporary ileostomy. When the pathology came back, I was diagnosed with stage 3B.

    External radiation

    Radiation

I did not have my ileostomy reversed, so I really did not have any bad side effects. However, I was receiving the 5-FU daily while going through radiation, and it did cause an uncomfortable burn. I had to stop the 5 FU about a week and a half before the radiation treatments were done.

    Painless Experience: Neutral/NA
    Minimal Side Effects: Agree
Minimal Impact to Daily Life: Neutral/NA

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I went through this round of chemo even better than the first. Looked forward to being done and having the ileostomy reversed. Tumor markers and blood work came back good. Pet scan was done again.

After the PET scan, a small nodule on the lower lobe of my lung had grown .4 cm.

    Oh No

The doctors decided that they wanted to biospy the nodule. We just got the news Friday that it is metastatic colonic adenocarcinoma which now puts me in Stage 4......It is like hearing the news for the first time all over again.
