    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I started my third round of chemo yesterday and Igo today and tomorrow for my 2nd and third dose of round 3. My side effects have been only hair loss and a little tired. Thank God. Also Thank God and my oncologist my cancer has shrunk greatly. My wbc was down after the 2nd round so my Dr ordered a shot of neulasta. Reading about the side effects I followed the advice to take alieve and clariton. I took it day before shot and for 5 days after. No bad effects were encountered. After my first round of chemo my Dr ordered a port be installed in my right arm. Painless procedure and meant to make chemo and blood draw easier than sticking you with an iv each time. I unfortunately got a staff infection in the incision and ended up in the hospital for 5 days being treated with anti biotics. They took the port out and instead installed a picc line with two lumens in my other arm. This is similar to a port but the lumens are outside the arm.working well. Thank God again this bump in the road did not affect my chemo treatments. I will be back when I have more results. God speed to all of you.

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

My third round of chemo is complete and as mentioned I believe earlier my Dr has held up radiation due to the good progress that the first two rounds of Chemo have had. He plans to reevaluated after the 4th Chemo with a Cat Scan and proceed with radiation that wont be so obtrusive--I hope he is correct by delaying-Any Thoughts? Third Round has made me more tired but that is the only side effect outside a little stomach upset that my pills are handling--I guess the Chemo does accumulate :)--My journey was interrupted by a staff infection in my Port--I have had to carry a Bio Pump for the last 10 days to kill the infection--My Port was removed and a PICC installed--Funny thing about that I am a tough stick for blood and IV'S and I went to the lab today for a blood draw for my infectious disease Dr to see if the Port infection has cleared completely and the lab could not use the PICC because of procedures - Unreal--I got stuck 4 times before they got the sample--

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Had third and fourth chemo sessions and they went well as far as the side effects went. A little more tired but not to devastating. The tumors shrunk but not as much as my Doctor would have liked to see. He is making another appointment with my radiologist next week. The first appointment turned out that they felt if they had given me radiation at that point the damage to good tissue would have been to much. The tumor is in front of the esophagus and my oncologist hopes it won't get damaged. Are they airing to heavy on the caution side instead of getting this tumor ? Any thoughts or advice.

    External radiation

    Radiation

My Oncologist recommended and I had 4 sessions of chemo with the 20 day separation--I also had loss of hair and tired fatigue - Mt cat I had a cat scan early and was also diagnosed for radiation treatment-Both Dr's confirmed and thought that it would be better to wait until after the last chemo treatment and then reevaluate radiation--I did that and the tumors had shrunk so they had me scheduled for 14 consecutive days of radiation treatment on the upper neck and tumor area--I finished those and with not much affects except again fatigue--I go for a re cat scan in a couple of weeks and hopefully the tumors have shrunk more--I feel pretty good for what I have been through.--I might mention that after each chemo treatment my Oncologist gave me a shot of Neulasta--This shot is recommended for low white cell prevention or I should say in produces or helps produce white cells in the bone marrow--It is quite expensive and thank God my Medicare and Supplementary insurance covered most of it--It also has some bad affects reported by some people but do a search on this forum if your Dad has this drug recommended and there is a practice of taking Aleve and an antihistamine, Claritin before the shot to counteract the affects--I did this and had no side affects--Curiously this procedure with the Aleve and Claritin is on a trail at some Cancer Hospitals for this shot Again God Bless and Have Faith--A strong Attitude IS ALL IMPORTANT THAT WE A:: WIL BEAT THIS - GOD BLESS
