    The unwelcome diagnosis...Breast Cancer

    Oh No

A long time supporter walking for cures, just never imagined it would be me. Scheduled for lumpectomy followed by radiation. My journey has only just begun.

    Stage change & more surgery

    Oh No

Post-op visit... Not stage 0, stage 1 & need a 2nd surgery & removal of a few lymph nodes. Not what I was hoping to hear but that's what it is :-( Gotta do whatever it takes.

    Axillary Lymph Node Dissection

    Procedure or Surgery

Prepared for the 2nd surgery but wasn't prepared for the procedure prior to surgery where I received 4 separate injections in the breast to see lymph nodes. The technician was very fwd and compassionate and as she explained, there was a pinch followed by burning. Horrible experience but not worse than the biopsy I had. Surgery went well & came back with clear margins. Recovery went well but now having difficulty with the arm because the nerves were affected. One day at a time.

    lumpectomy or mastectomy

    Decision Point

Lumpectomy with the possibility of a second surgery + radiation therapy or Mastectomy + Chemo. With the help of my Dr. I went with Lumpectomy because she felt at my stage (0), a mastectomy wasn't necessary. I didn't want to be plagued by the 2 C's (cancer & chemo).

    Post-op news

    Oh No

Though margins came back clear, I was informed that my tumor/tissue was sent out for further testing and based on the findings (those #'s again), will determine whether I would need chemo in addition to radiation. Unsettling to hear because I don't want to have to take chemo and now it's a possibility that I could need it. Likely or unlikely, where it seemed ruled out, may now be of no choice. My prayers will be for low #s & no chemo.

    External radiation

    Radiation

My #s were low (Thank God) so I do not need chemo. Fatigued after treatments but 2 days to completion of Rads. Long haul but it's almost over. Looking forward to ringing that victory bell!!!

    Knot in surgical breast

    Oh No

A big knot developed on my breast that wasn't there after initial surgery nor during rads. so this sent me into worry mode. About a week later it was time for my 6mo mammo. I brought it to their attn and they sent me for a sono as well.

    Needle aspiration

    Procedure or Surgery

After visit back to breast clinic I told my Dr. about the knot on my breast & she explained it was seroma and did a needle aspiration (drainage) and afterwards I was sooo relieved bcz the knot was gone. This put my mind at ease. I love my team of Dr's.
