    Diagnosed

    Oh No

tumor/mass/infection discovered during colonoscopy on October 29th. I was scheduled to have a CT Scan and advised to call a surgeon immediately as recommended by my doctor. I was also advised to go downstairs to the office to make an appointment to see my doctor in two weeks. I was shocked but thankful that my older sister was with me. By the way the surgeon recommended by my doctor did not take my health insurance.

    Laparascopic colon surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

The surgeon before proceeding waited for results of CT Scan(my insurance company gave my doctor's staff a difficult time when they tried to get approval for this procedure). The doctor himself had to get on the phone to have this test approved, results from that test seemed to show that the cancer had spread to my liver. The surgeon who accepted my insurance acting cautiously, then scheduled me to have an MRI on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Test results showed cancer had not spread to my liver, I had what appeared to be lesions or cysts; so I had my surgery on Tuesday December 12,2011. It appears to have been successful. I was up walking around the hospital ward and sitting up all day on Wednesday morning. \\

    Decision Point

I am still dealing with the shock of this diagnosis and subsequent testing and surgery for removal of the tumor. My family both natural and church family have been supportive of me, but I still feel alone. I was worried about the financial costs because I recently retired from my job with New York State and had planned to travel, volunteer but first things first.
