    Cancer has spread/Metastasized

    Oh No

Misdiagnosed for a year (told it was a cyst and nothing to worry about). 4/22/13 had a core biopsy which showed invasive ductile carcinoma (5 tumors in right breast). Biopsy on left breast was inconclusive. 6 rounds or chemo began 5/14/13, then bilateral mastectomy (scheduled for 9/19/13), then 11 rounds of herceptin.

    Implant chemotherapy port

    Procedure or Surgery

Outpatient surgery 5/7/13 to install port on left side of chest. Uncomfortable and limited left arm movement for about a week. Mobility returned after 2nd week, it is still somewhat uncomfortable and very prominent but they said that is due to my size (small). It worked great for chemo but they still use veins for weekly blood draws.

    Flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, sweats)

    Side Effects

I ran a low grade fever from the time my port was installed (5/7/13) until about a week after my first chemo (5/14/13). Fatigue was bad on days 4-6 after chemo. Also experienced lost of taste, dry mouth, blood nose, dry eyes and hair started falling out on day 14 after first chemo (shaving it felt great! The itching was driving me batty). Weekly blood draws show that WBC is doing well due to Neulasta. Next round, 6/4 (Herceptin, taxotere, carboplatin)

    Double Mastectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

Bilateral mastectomy on 9/19/13 after 6 rounds of TCH chemo. Blood transfusion due to chemo affecting RBC. Drains were in for 5 LONG weeks, ended up with a staph infection and back in the hospital for 6 days and 2 weeks of at home IV antibiotics. Radiation was supposed to start a month ago but has been delayed (perhaps permanently) until infection is clear. Continuing Herceptin every 3 weeks and Tamoxifen daily. Hair is starting to come back, very gray but soft. Looking forward to 2014!
