Tumor found on annual mammogram.
Double Mastectomy
Procedure or Surgery
Felt like I'd been hit by a truck! 4 drains for 2 weeks were a pain. Developed a seroma and had to have a drain put back in (about 5 weeks after initial surgery) for another 2 weeks but thankfully no infection.
Hormone therapy
Drug or Chemo Therapy
anastrozole for 10 years
Hot flashes
Side Effects
Hot flashes and night sweats, achy hands and feet, fatigue and trouble sleeping.
Breast Reconstruction (Implant)
Procedure or Surgery
Originally going to have lumpectomy with radiation. Second tumor found in MRI meant mastectomy necessary. After talking to PS about reconstruction and the surgery required on the non-cancerous breast to make it "match" decided on bi-lateral mastectomy. Reduce the risk for recurrence and definite aesthetic benefits. Immediate reconstruction with tissue expanders/implants followed by nipple reconstruction surgery and finally tattoos.

Breast Reconstruction (Implant)
Procedure or Surgery
Had 700cc implants exchanged for 500cc implants. I think my PS thinks I'm a little crazy but I feel so much better already and I'm just two days out. I know the implants will never feel "real" to me but I feel much more natural looking and comfortable now.

Total thyroidectomy
Procedure or Surgery
trying to get thyroid hormone levels balanced
radioactive iodine -131 treatment
Radiation
three weeks on low iodine diet and extreme hypothyroidism to prepare for "the pill". Three days in isolation was the worst part and some nausea for a couple of days. overall not too big of a deal.
