Lack of energy sent me to the doctor. I was diagnosed with severe anemia and scheduled for endoscopy and colonoscopy. Endoscopy was clear, colonoscopy found tumor.

    Allergic reaction

    Side Effects

Serious reaction to oxaliplatin. Itching, redness, vomiting, blood pressure drop. Nurses gave me Benadryl and I was fine, but future treatments were 5fu and leucovorin with avastin without the oxaliplatin.

basic 5FU no longer effective, had to decide on next step

    Decision Point

2 options suggested: either attempt FOLFOX again using a desensitization protocol, or move on to FOLFIRI and Erbitux. Ended up going with FOLFOX, hopefully it will still be effective and the desensitization will let me use it.

    Cancer has spread/Metastasized

    Oh No

I already had plenty of tumors in my liver, but now there's a new one. Time to change treatments.

New tumor means new treatment required.

    Decision Point

The doctor offered a few choices: returning to a previous treatment, a phase 1 clinical trial, or Stivarga. After discussion of some of the pros and cons of each, we are going with Stivarga.

    Liver problems

    Side Effects

Stivarga turned me yellowish (jaundice). Treatment stopped for now. We will decide if I can try a lower dose after I get back to normal.

    Fever

    Side Effects

developed pain in general area of liver and fever went up, so it was back to the hospital for a couple days of antibiotics and tests. They decided it was post-embolization syndrome, not a huge problem, but next go-round they will send me home with antibiotics and pain pills
