    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Receiving chemotherapy has been relatively easy. I look forward to the day that I receive my chemotherapy because I am one step closer to winning the fight against cancer, my chemo nurses are supportive, helpful & caring, the center where I receive treatment is serene, and I have only had one minor reaction during treatment. The Side Effects have been horrible, and I remind myself that this Short-term treatment will extend my life and the quality of life for my children. I've mostly dealt with fatigue, nausea, constipation, body aches, leg muscles tightening, loss of menses, and finger/finger nail sensation issues in addition to chemobrain. All of those mentioned above have made my daily life more challenging because in addition to dealing with those issues I have continued to work and care for my children while trying to care for myself and immersed in this physically altered state. I don't have family nearby, so my support group has been through my bible study groups and co-workers.

    Side Effects

One surprising side effect is nail color changes. Well, not so much the color change, but more surprising because my nails feel bruised as they look. Whenever possible, I ask for help, even if it is popping open a can of ginger ale. The nail changes began after Round 4, and the color has gotten worse after Round 5. My little toesies are changing color as well. A new side effect that concerned me was feeling like I was going to pass out a couple of times when I was guzzling water. So, I am sipping now. And, my body is starting to feel tense cramped...time to join the Cancer Community Yoga classes.

    Axillary Lymph Node Dissection

    Procedure or Surgery

I was surprised to have awaken in excruciating pain and even more surprised that I could hardly move my arm without severe pain. I was worried that I wouldn't regain full range of movement. Lymphedema will always be a risk. Still I am so thankful that the pain level has decreased significantly since surgery about 3 weeks ago.
