Surgery through the anus to remove tumor

    Procedure or Surgery

Doctor told me nothing to worry about, sending to lab, results to be back in within a week. Everything looked fine. Went back for follow-up appt. still no results from lab. Scheduled another appt at Drs office for following week. Next appt, Dr read chart, told Dr I was in a lot of pain and felt a lot of pressure. Said shouldn't be feeling any of this, should be feeling fine at this point.

    Chemotherapy and radiation combined

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Hemotologist/Oncologist prepared Chemo Plan, duration, etc. prescribed Pain Patches and Pain Meds. Had no idea Cancer was so painful! Went across to Radiation/Oncologist, got Tattooed, Dr explained duration of Radiation treatments, what to expect, etc. Started Chemo treatments and Radiation Treatments. Chemo was fine first day and during the night, thought this was going to be a breeze. Felt fine, no nausea, no weakness, etc. woke up and felt so weak and sick, started throwing up. Couldn't get out of bed I was so weak. Couldn't hold down crackers. It was a weekend and no Nausea Meds, Dr told me Chemo shouldn't affect me.

    Nausea medicine

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Chemo made me so sick and weak, couldn't hold anything down. Ended up in Hospital so sick, weak and dehydrated. Wasn't able to start Radiation treatments yet.

    Radiation and chemotherapy together

    Radiation

Anyone who has had Radiation "down under" knows how you become literally raw, burned, etc and the effects the Radiation does to your outside along with the inside of your intestines! Not a pretty picture and has lasting effects for years.

    Psychosocial

    Other Care

I was always a very out going person, a social butterfly, if you will. The Chemo/radiation affected my memory to a certain degree, it causes lasting brain fogginess that the Drs also tell you will not last, depression, lasting fatigue I still suffer from, etc. the Radiation affected my S-1 the worse, I have chronic back pain, my hips are in constant pain, i have atropy in my left calf, and my legs are weakened from my hip/lower back pain. I developed COPD two years ago from the treatments and after my chemo/radiation treatments where finished the end of June, the Drs ordered CAT Scans, MRIs, numerous testing was done. MRI results showed my lungs where the healthiest, pink in color and looked like that of a 16 year old non-smoker in 2007. In Feb 2009, I was rushed to Hospital, oxygen SAT levels at 84, on breathing treatments for one hour, wouldn't raise, was hospitalised, had severe bronchitis I wasn't able to get over with antibiotics, steroids, etc and was diagnosed with pneumonia and the Swine Flu. The team of Drs working with me told my husband if it had been 45 minutes longer before I was rushed in, I would be in a pine box, not in the hospital. I told the Drs at the Hospital, I had just been to a Pulmonary Specialist a week before and he said I was fine! After numerous testing, scans, MRIs, etc, I was diagnosed with COPD/bronchitis with Exercise Induced Asthma from the effects of the Chemo/Radiation.

    Symptoms

I have suppressed immune system due to chemo/radiation treatments. I was told that would only last approx 4-6 weeks and I would be back to normal....NOPE! Finished treatments end of June 2007. Get infections easily and takes several months to finally get over what was causing the illness, etc. I have been getting a bacterial infection and not able to get over it. Have been to several Drs, Specialists. They said intestinal. Okay, really? Since December? Several rounds of Levaquin, high dose for 10 days each time. Would feel lots better for around 4 weeks and started getting run down and another bacterial infection! I take Ibuprofen 800mg 2 to 3 x daily for chronic pain I am in since treatments among other meds. Long story short, two weeks ago my 8 yr old Autisic son, who is quite brilliant and on an adults level of conversation, asked me exactly where my pain was radiating from. I told him around my right ear area and under my ear area and I have lost partial hearing in my right ear. Drs kept blowing that off saying that is not the problem, that is from sinuses. I don't have sinus issues! I have Severe Asthma...they call it COPD/Bronchitis. On all kinds of meds for that as well as for my lower back and hips, chronic pain! Caused from treatments. Anyway, my son closed his eyes, put his right fingers under my right ear, ran them down my right jaw area to the bottom of my right jaw and I nearly jumped off the couch from the nerve pain he hit with his fingers! My son told me to open my mouth, he loves flashlights, he looked in my mouth on the right side and said "Momma, I don't want to sound mean and hurt your feelings but your back gums around your back teeth look real yucky and gross and it has pus in it. You need to go to the doctor right away or go to the ER real bad Momma. It doesn't look good back there!" I told my son I think I have Ben trying to cut my Wisdom tooth and that is why it has been hurting for last several months. I got up, looked in mirror and thought I was going to pass out! Wisdom tooth already totally in, bad infection behind wisdom tooth! Went to dentist next day. Told me bad bacterial infection in pocket behind Molar, told dentist not a Molar, those pulled when child, wore braces, too many teeth for my small mouth. He scraped and cleaned, put me on antibiotics and antibiotic mouthwash, told me chemo/radiation KILLS Salivary Glands, leads to Peridontal Disease, looks like what I have on that side due to DRY MOUTH. That part finally cleared up BUT along my gum line and down right jawbone, it still hurts! I floss, bleeds between each tooth and not pretty. Anybody else going through this? Oh, and under my crown where I got root canal 3years ago, HURTS.
