    External radiation

    Radiation

Radiation was painful with very unpleasant side effects. I was shocked at the amount of scarring and the burns. I still deal with the long-term effects of radiation. I had to be hospitalized because of radiation side effects. Still feeling the affects from all the radiation and the scaring continues to cause large amounts of pain

    Flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, sweats)

    Side Effects

For the first time I got the worst case of Flu like feeling everyone tells you about after my last Nuelasta shot - I have never felt so bad - every bone in my body hurt and I could barely get out of the bed as if that's not the case with every Chemo treatment - I am just starting to feel better and god willing my last Chemo treatment is this Monday - July 29th - I just don't know how or if I can handle being told I will have to continue treatment - so for now let see what happens after this treatment on Monday. I pray for a Pet scan maybe the end of Aug and hope the tumor is gone - one positive note is when I got my labs last week my counts were so high that the Doctor is going to cut the nuelasta shot in half for my last treatment - so for now dreading Monday but excited too - hopefully I can say last Chemo and tumor gone but waiting will be hard

    Remission

    Celebration

Finally completed Chemo ( by the hair of my chinny chin chin ) I breathe a sigh of relief - had my Pet Scan and was given the wonderful news the tumor is no longer cancerous - so tomorrows a new day - still really tired and sleep a good bit - I lost 22 pounds and the Doc was not happy about it but better then my first treatment 3 years ago where I lost 40 pounds so for me I gained a few lost a few - working on eating more slowly - strength will come back - making an appointment with a Urologist for the damage from all the radiation that's the game plan for now - 3 week visits to the oncologist ( my lifesaver ) and Pets every 3 months - I want to thank my new friends because without this site I would be lost - it feels good to know I can come here and ask anything and get honest help from people just like me - so for today I can say I kicked Cancer in the Butt -- it feels good to say that

    Symptom Management

Some cancers wii never be completely out of mind ever. There is always the aftermath, I struggle with keeping my weight at 98 pounds eating is just hard when you just hurt so much that over time your body gets used to small amounts. My reproductive system is so damaged and contributes to a massive amount of my pain - as the radiation still continues to produce scaring and chemo keeps me losing hair - treatment does so much damage to your body that there are lasting effects like neuropathy that I now have , surgery in some cases can cause a hernia which I now have two of so lifting, pushing bending puts major pressure on my midsection and is dangerous- I am labeled stage IV, with 2 reacurrences. I go next week to get my port flushed - and am at this state of (NEOD) - you don't I think ever use the word in remission but in 2 more years 2018 which will make it 8 years since the first day of told I have Cancer Feb 2010 - I might be able to say REMISSION but I will probably always just say (NEOD) hopefully - so you see the after math of Cancer is really an on going battle - Everyday presents a new challenge a change so to speak in how you live your life - it takes its toll - you shake it off and just think tomorrow I will try a little harder -
