    Diagnosis

    Oh No

Sometime in October 2012, I took what I thought was a bowel movement and expelled only blood. I rationalized it to hemorrhoids and put it out of my mind. After I had the third episode in late November, I made an appointment with my primary. She found blood in the rectal exam and referred me to the GI guy who, after his exam, scheduled my for a colonoscopy the next day. On his day off. I knew I was in for some bad news, but nothing prepares you for the actual words. When I came to from the procedure, he hit me with the news, colon/rectal cancer. For a moment, the room swirled and I felt completely detached from my body. When I came to my senses, I propped myself up and blurted out with some manufactured courage: O.K. What next?
