Colonoscopy started in all
Procedure or Surgery
Routine colonoscopy that I took simply because I'd never had one. Turned up a malignant tumor in the sigmoid colon.
Just being single with a very limited support system
Oh No
I am fortunate to have a sister who is my rock. She's taken the diagnosis in stride.
Colon surgery (colectomy or hemicolectomy)
Procedure or Surgery
because of a family history of ovarian cancer and my age of 52, went ahead and had a total hysterectomy at the same time, while doing the major surgery. Had one small spot of the incision that refused to close. Spent three weeks in the hospital, then two more weeks in a rehab hospital before going home with outpatient nursing to continue the dressings.
Implant chemotherapy port
Procedure or Surgery
Simple hospital day surgery that meant more wait and wait than anything. Gave me more time to spend with my sister. Left me with a serious itch, I don't tolerate adhesives well, and I had medical superglue on the wound, steri-strips, and paper tape on the gauze covering which caused hives.
Chemotherapy
Drug or Chemo Therapy
Doing the Folfox regimen and having the pump to carry home was a bit awkward, but it beat having to make continual trips in to the office for infusions.
