    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Our son Isaac was diagnosed with ALL the day before his second birthday! We had no warning whatsoever! He had bloodwork to test for anemia because he looked pale (but had NO other symptoms whatsoever!) and that afternoon we were sent for a blood transfusion and heard the word leukemia mentioned. We had an early morning appt the very next day at the children's hospital (Riley's) where he was diagnosed on the spot and then taken for a bone marrow biopsy. We were completely in shock!

    Implant chemotherapy port

    Procedure or Surgery

Isaac had his port put in on his second birthday and had his first chemo treatment later that day! It is amazing how resilient kids are! He was groggy for several hours and then was up playing by the end of the day! He had his port in for 3 full years and it was an amazing blessing! It helped him still be able to be a kid and be able to bathe, swim, etc and it really helped that he didn't have to be poked in the arm everytime! He got very use to getting his port accessed and with the help of the emla cream it didn't even bother him after awhile! He would just sit and chat with the drs while they did what they needed to do!
