    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I finished my 6 months of chemo on Nov. 6th, I got 5FU and oxaliplatin every other week, and went home with a continuous infusion pump for 2 days. I thought I would be very nauseated and lose all my hair but the nausea was managable and my hair only thinned slightly. What I wasn't at all prepared for was the fatigue, it was overwhelming! I did work on the non chemo weeks 24 hrs but it was lighter work than my normal. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be in other ways, as long as I rested a lot and just went with it.

    Fatigue (tiredness)

    Side Effects

Fatigue was the worst, nausea was managable with emmend and zofran, and neuropathy is still there (when will it go away?). I've been done with chemo for almost 2 months, my legs hurt and they feel clumsy when I first get up in morning or if I've been sitting on the floor and go to stand up.

    Finished treatment

    Celebration

My last day was nov. 6th. My daughter, granddaughter and I went to Eagle Creek Park and seen lots of deer, then played on the playground and I even did a little flip on the monkey bars. Great day!

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

March 6 2013 I had a small liver resection for one spot they had previously thought was a cluster of blood vessels but turned positive on PET. They found another tumor during surgery which they removed also.

    chemo or no chemo

    Decision Point

My oncologist said I need another 6 months of chemo, the surgical oncologist at IU initially said no need for chemo and explained at great length why, then changed her mind at postoperative appt without a good explanation as to why, I went for another opinion at MD Anderson in Houston, they said no chemo because it doesn't work on microscopic disease. I know chemo is given as an adjuvant therapy ( for the possibility of microscopic disease) all the time so I don't know what to do! They are top rated for cancer care so I should listen to them and I don't want chemo if no benefits, but I don't want to take a risk if there is potential for increasing my survival chance. Just an update, at that time we decided not to do chemo.
