    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

I had a sternotomy (open chest surgery) in July of 2008 to remove the mass found behind my sternum. It was attached to the major vessels of my heart and also wrapped around my right phrenic nerve. My surgeon has to cut the phrenic nerve to remove the tumor, leaving the right side of my diaphragm paralyzed. Biopsy of the mass showed malignant, Hodgkin's. Recovery time was about 8 weeks.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

After some recovery time from surgery, I began ABVD chemo with 6 rounds or 12 treatments over about 7 months. Chemo was every 2 weeks (approx) and the infusion was 3-4 hours long.

    CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine)

    Other Care

I made some major diet changes in small steps and attribute that to my energy levels coming back, feel stronger and happier while in chemo. I felt such a differnce! I also tried acupuncture for anxiety and nausea.
