    Lumpectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

Thought for sure tumor would be benign. Was shocked! 1st Surgeon wouldn't do Sentinel Node at the same time, Had 2 more surgeries after changing surgeons, further lumpectomy w/sentinel node and axillary lymph node dissection.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but put me down for awhile every time. Last was the worst. Plus lost all my white cells and had to get Neulasta shots.

    developed Lymphedema

    Oh No

Arm got huge, probably weighed 10 lbs. Therapy and chevron wrapping consumed a lot of time. Much better now, but keep a vigilant eye on it.

    Cancer is back/Recurred

    Oh No

Feb 2013, mastectomy. Cancer was squamous cell carcinoma in my breast at a biopsy sight. Anyone else ever heard of this? Dr said it was from radiation.

    Decision Point

Looking into procedures altho I am scared of having another surgery. Looks like Free Flap is the best choice for me.

    Reconstruction

    Celebration

Nov. 5 was my prophylactic mastectomy (atypical cells showed up in pathology results) and DIEP Flap reconstruction. Healing is going well. Pleased with my decision and results.

    DIEP Flap Reconstruction

    Milestones

Hi Girls! It's 4 weeks after my reconstruction. Life is returning to normal, except for the lifting limit of 10 lbs. And the needed naps. Already the incisions are fading and my new breasts are really looking good. My belly is hard and tight, but the nurse said in a couple more months it would soften up some. My new naval is seeping, but I know that is normal. So far my primary physician and gyno have checked me out and said I look good. A couple of friends who have been on this journey with me are really impressed. Yesterday I had my ovarian cysts that showed up on presurgery testing checked out. My gyno is not concerned and will do another ultrasound in May. That's a relief! Have to remember to do stretches for arm flexibility and to keep my lymphedema under control. Surgery has not irritated it, but some of my activities do. Not bad, though. Wishing the best to all of you! Marcia
