    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Had found a swollen lymph on left side of my neck, never suspected cancer until my primary care DR sent me for a CT scan. Results said I needed a biopsy for a complete diagnosis so I was set up with a Head and Neck cancer surgeon at Johns Hopkins. She did a needle biopsy and found it was cancer caused by HPV virus. Surgery followed on Dec 9, 2011 where she removed the lump and also the primary site (8mm tumor) in the back of my throat. Follow up will be radiation and chemo treatments for six weeks.

    Procedure or Surgery

Definitely affected daily life for about two weeks due to effect of pain in throat and problems swallowing anything but liquids. Let alone side effect of drugs and drainage tubes from surgery which came out n another week or so.

    Went as Expected: Strongly Agree
    Minimal Recovery: Neutral/NA
    Minimal Side Effects: Neutral/NA

    External radiation

    Radiation

This is what I begin in another week. I had the radiation simulation and kind of freaked out over the mask. I must be a lot more claustrophobic than I knew.
