Did not heal and had to have additional surgeries which caused loss of motion that I still seem to suffer today and pain.

    Lumpectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

This was done when I had my left mastectomy which they expected to find no cancer cells but did. It was my choice and I decided to do a mastectomy on the right. It was the right decision because they found 2 spots of invasive cancer on the right after the mastectomy. Even the MRI with contrast did not detect the 2nd spot of cancer. I had dense tissue so I made the right choice.

    Sentinel lymph node biopsy

    Procedure or Surgery

This was done on both breasts however they expected to find nothing in my lymph nodes on the left side and one node was positive. They only removed 6 nodes due to what they thought. The procedure I thought was a bit painful but it's necessary for detecting if cancer has spread.

    Hormone therapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

First drug was Arimidex, side effects where I couldn't even walk so much pain. Next was Aromasin, by night I could hardly walk to get to bed, fell a few times in middle of night, pain in feet. Now on Femara. It's better but still lots of pain. I have to take this for 5 yrs. Anyone else experiencing pain? I know a lot of people take these drugs with no side effects. I can't give it up because I would feel like if I didn't take them and I had a reoccurance it would be my fault.

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I now have to take percocet for pain, naprosen and flexerol. I wonder if I am hurting my other organs after all the chemo etc. I have fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and have taken pain meds in past was trying to take no pain meds. Now I live on them and oncologist says it's ok so I trust her.

I believe it was external I went daily for 28 treatments. It was very painful and very stressful to go there daily. The burn was horrible.

Received several shots for this, never blood transfusion, don't really eat much meat, now none but forced red meat down me to avoid transfusion. I am now having a slight issue again with red blood cell count.

    Hair loss (alopecia)

    Side Effects

This was probably the hardest side effect. People will tell you "it's only hair" and that's true because yes you are alive (like I didn't realize that is why I was doing this not them, it was ME who went thru 5 surgeries and sat in a chemo chair not them it was MY life not theirs, their life was moving along just fine) anyway.........for me losing my long hair I had had ALL my life was devastating and today a year later it still is. I am so grateful to be alive OF COURSE I am but mentally what the disease does to you is no fun. I still wear my wig. It's my choice just as it was my choice to do chemo it's my choice to wear a wig still. I'm not secure enough without it. Hats off to those that have enough self esteem to go without, I adore you and give you huge props. I tried but couldn't.

    Nausea/Vomiting

    Side Effects

First 4 chemos I had a lot of nausea. I walked around with mini saltine crackers non-stop. I ate a lot of potatoes also. They helped settle my stomach and eventually my husband bought potato perogies which were easier than peeling all those potatoes. When you lose your taste buds not much tastes good but the potatoes helped my sick stomach. When I didn't eat at all I felt sicker, they told me after my first 2 weeks to try to eat something and it helped.

    Sterioid side effect

    Side Effects

I had steroid side effects that I didn't understand (never had a steroid in my life) the first 2 weeks of chemo. I had racing heart and pain in my chest plus couldn't sleep at night. Had I called the office they could have told me what was wrong or got me in to check me. I paniced because heart problems can be a side effect of chemo and figured it was just heart problems and they couldn't reverse it. They prescribed xanax and I was fine the rest of my chemo treatments it took care of those side effects of the steroids. Instead I just felt doing chemo was the worst decision I ever made and spent 2 miserable weeks. If you have any questions or worries call your doctor and don't wait.
