    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Initial biopsy said the lump was not cancer, but my doctor and I still felt that it needed to come out. Biopsy of the tumor showed Acinic Cell Carcinoma. Because we did not think it was cancer, my surgeon only removed the tumor and no surrounding tissue. My second and third opnion want me to have a third surgery to remove the entire right parotid and biopsy the surrouding tissue and lymph nodes. Was not thinking that a third surgery would be happening and now overwhelmed.

    Decision Point

So I have gone to two more doctors for second opinions on how to proceed with my cancer. One doctor is talking about a radical surgery which could leave my facial nerve damaged. This would not be my first surgery on the parotid, but the third, which adds more complications. The second doctor wants no surgery, he feels the last surgery removed the tumor accurately and wants me to have radiation. Two opinions cannot be more different. I have one more opinion scheduled so it will be interesting what I am told again.

    Radiation

Well it looks like decisions have been made and I will be starting radiation. I go this coming Monday to be fitted for my mask and have the start-up paperwork to complete and then I will begin treatment 10 to 14 days after that. I plan on working while receiving treatment, will have to cut down my hours some because I will be getting treatment two hours from where I work.
