    Diagnosed

    Oh No

In February 2011 there was no 1" lump on my chest X-Ray but in September 2011 an Emergency Room visit shows a 1" lump on my left upper lung. Diagnosed in November 2011 that the sugar molecules indicate it is cancer? Two opinions say, "Let us cut it out and while were in there we will take all the cancer out."

    Decision Point

I've decided to forgo the BIOPSY and go straight to SURGERY? Removal of my Left Upper Lobe Lung. What makes this difficult is the fact I do not suffer or feel the cancer, only the X-Rays show me a "white spot," saying that is cancer. It is a difficult decision to make; STOP smoking, TAKE my lung and you maybe ON OXYGEN for the rest of your LIFE? Why have I decided to elect surgery? I just don't know & scared to death!

    Lobectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

On the 1st of February 2012 I went in at 6am in operating room by 9am for a LEFT VIDEO ASSISTED THORACIC SURGERY; LOBECTOMY, recovery room at 11am. A bit drowsy but fully woke up the next day in a room attached to oxygen. Actually I didn't feel a thing (pain) nothing but pressure and slight pain on movement which a Motrin would be enough. It was amazing to think I was actually scared about this process but now I can tell you there's nothing to fear but fear itself. Yes you face the question of death and all you can do is answer with a "Living Will" & move on. Later on during the first day the surgeon came to say made a small incision in neck to collect the lymphoid(s) and they were negative but the remaining collection will be tested also. Went into your left side with two incisions to gather the tumor which tested positive for non-small cancer & I saw no other cancer! (Could this be a standard comment?) I collected myself on the third day made a good walking assessment to occupational therapy then released 2/4/2012. Was a bit shaky on the first day at home but got by (home alone), by myself & used the DILAUDID sparingly (very addictive). Last night I slept like a lamb & even laid flat in the bed without the gasping for air. Trying not to rely on oxygen at present but failed to use "incentive spirometer" as directed. Use calls for once each hour 10 breaths trying to keep ball at the top for 10 seconds (never got past "baby setting"). Otherwise, everything is fine! Thanks 4 UR prayers & information it helped me! This may not be the last of it but I found courage in my faith to battle till the end. See doctor in 2 weeks & will keep you posted.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Starts 3/15/2012 - INFUSION of Cisplatin & Navelbine. Well the plan was to have 16 weeks of Cisplatin & Navelbine. The 1st quarter (4 weeks) I was to receive Cisplatin & Navelbine together in the first week and the next 3 weeks - Navelbine by itself.

    Easy to Do: Not Specified
    Minimal Side Effects: Not Specified

    Remission

    Celebration

Well what I didn't understood I can now understand? All the worry after surgery I had ms-understood why I was going to CHEMOTHERAPY? The surgery (removal) of my Upper Left Lobe Lung contained ALL OF THE TUMORS! I had three tumors and all 3 were removed during surgery.... I had post-op meeting with surgeoan and I thought he said I had 2 more tumors but what he meant was that the 2 tumors were removed during surgery and I was being sent to CHEMO to attack any remaining cancer. I started Chemo on March 15, 2012 & on May 24, 2012 I understood what I didn't understand? When you ask questions make sure you understand what you are asking? CANCER FREE & CHEMOTHERAPY ENDS SEPTEMBER 2012!!!!!!

    Remission

    Celebration

Chemotherapy ended July 21, another blood transfusion July 22, and my 60th birthday on the 23rd of July 2012! Thank the Lord for His MERCY, GRACE, & UNDESERVED KINDNESS! I'm still weak, uncontrollable urine, numbness in fingers, and lost 50 lbs. of weight after CHEMO but I'm glad its over. No after care instructions? Just try to live on? I have a scooter coming (God only knows when), Pulmonary this week, and other than that I have to find things to do now (after being in CHEMO on a daily basis).
