    Cancer is back/Recurred

    Oh No

I was first diagnosed 11/2002 with DCIS insitu. Also learned that I was BRCA2. Had bilateral mastectomy and ovaries and tubes removed the following year. Was on tamoxifin and aromasin for about 6 years. Felt great and never worried about it coming back. Then about 2 years ago I felt something under my right arm. Went to see oncologist, he was not concerned but had me come back in 6 weeks. Couldn't really feel it anymore (at least as far as I remember) but then the following year (last January) I now felt something else there (another small soft lump) I shared this with my gyn, and bless her heart, she said, "with your history, I would get it checked out" and there it was again on residual breast tissue, and in one node.

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

Fortunately I was under great care up at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC as in addition to have 3 small tumors removed on the right side and one positive node, my left implant had bee ruptured! I had silicone implants after my mastectomy 8 years prior and one of them had ruptured! Words to the wise, go with saline for your implants. They look just as good, feel fine and are alot safe. Worth the peace of mind.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I was and continue to be undertreatment with an acupuncturist. This has been essential in my healing process and credit this with sailing through chemo and radiation quite smootly.

    Clinical Trial

I was part of a clinical trial while undergoing radiation. The trial was Oral Curcumin for Radiation Dermatitis in Breast Cancer Patients. I took 4 pills, 3x a time. Don't know if I was taking the curcumin (like the spice cumin) or a placebo. I had some burning and itching, a little bleeding, but I was told my radiation nurses that it really was that bad. Minimal discomfort.
