    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I was given medication to start before each chemo session. So I had very little problems with nausea, vomiting etc. I had Adriamycin, Cytoxin and Taxol. I had four cycles of Adriamycin and Cytoxan, then four cycles of Taxol for chemo over twenty weeks. My doctor prescribed medications to take prior to the chemo and I have very few side effects. I felt tired about three days after, but timed my treatments so this hit on the weekend. I worked full time during my treatments. The worst side effect was from the Neulasta injections. Very achy. I had surgery next and then about six weeks after surgery I started radiation. That lasted 28 days - with weekends off.

    Mastectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

I had never had major surgery, so I was nervous. The procedure went very smoothly. Had a mastectomy with total lymph node resection. I was awake and visiting with my family by mid afternoon. Nothing like I anticipated. It was difficult sleeping and getting out of bed, but nothing horrible

    External radiation

    Radiation

I worked during my radiation treatments also. Some fatigue but nothing unbearable. I had minimal blistering at the end of the procedure and that was due to my bra rubbing the area. I was advise to use Aquapor but found that too much line Vaseline. I used Curel Intensive Cream and did well with that - Put on morning, after treatment and again at night, but had to wash it off prior to radiation.

Therapy/massage for lymphedema and cording after surgery

    Other Care

Developed a condition called cording, couldn't straighten my arm due to the "cording". Therapy helped. Also had a minor complication after my port was inserted before chemo. I developed a pneumothorax, but we just watched it and my lung responded and re-inflated in about three weeks. It didn't delay my treatments. Thank goodness!
