    Lumpectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

Still not sure how to navigate this site as I seem to be writing the same thing in multiple places.Anyway, I had the lumpectomy yesterday and was surprised at how little pain I had afterwards. Best of all, the sentinel node biopsy was clear although my surgeon cautioned me that the final patholgy report won't be available until Thurs. I know that attitude is so important to recovery and I feel some of my naturally positive outlook returning although I know that the journey ahead will be like a roller coaster- I keep repeating "one day at a time". Had power port inserted after healing from surgery- unfortunately, surgeon nicked my lung so I ended up in hospital for 6 days with pneumothorax and uncomfortable chest tube. Surgeon had told me this was a risk. He is an excellent surgeon and was devastated that this happened.

    Went as Expected: Strongly Agree
    Minimal Recovery: Strongly Agree
    Minimal Side Effects: Strongly Agree
Minimal Impact to Daily Life: Strongly Agree

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Finished chemotherapy on Aug. 27- had 4 rounds of adriamycin&cytoxin, followed by 12 rounds of Taxol.Celebrated with my family by going out to dinner. Feel I was very fortunate in not having any severe side effects - just a lot of fatigue. Of course, I did lose my hair, eyelashes and eyebrows but they will grow back. Appetite was good during the entire course of treatment and the Neulasta injections the day after the A/C kept my WBC within normal range. No neuropathy- took Vit. B12 combo daily and I think that helped.

    Easy to Do: Neutral/NA
    Minimal Side Effects: Agree
Minimal Impact to Daily Life: Neutral/NA

    Finished treatment

    Celebration

Finished 5 months of chemo on Aug. 27- celebrated with my family Oncologist feels statistics are in my favor and does not feel I'll have any more problems although he cannot guarantee this. Said I can have my power port removed so I was very happy about that.

    Fatigue (tiredness)

    Side Effects

During the 4 rounds of A/C fatigue was overwhelming- spent most of the time on the sofa, although did manage to go out with family and friends occasionally. Had some queasiness but as long as I kept some food on my stomach it was tolerable. Much easier on Taxol- I had more energy, no queasiness.
