Diagnosed
Oh No
Diagnosed 11-1-2011 It sure was a lot to take it all of a sudden. Then it took two weeks to be seen by the surgeon. Then a month to get a surgical date. It was really hard to wait. I had to say it over and over to myself just to get used to the idea.
Mastectomy
Procedure or Surgery
I had the double mastectomy. My daughter looked at my chest right after surgery. With the expanders in I had about an A cup. I however, didn't look at myself for 3 weeks. I showered without looking, I turned mirrors. I wasn't able to see the reflection of what I was left with. I was worried that this would be the only memory I would have of my chest and it would scar me emmotionally. At three weeks I was able to look and get used to it.
No More Cancer, No Chemo, No Radiation
Celebration
I can't ask for better than that.
Hormone therapy
Drug or Chemo Therapy
Not loving the Hormone Therapy. I have gained 22 lbs., have hot flashes, nausea, etc.
Breast Reconstruction (Implant)
Procedure or Surgery
Breast reconstruction complete. The drainage tubes are out and now I look like I used to. These breasts I am happy with and will be in harmony with my body. I hadn't really been able to expect what it would be like to be on the other side of the diagnosis.
Weight gain
Side Effects
Hormone Therapy-sweats, weight gain (20 lbs.), headaches, hair loss, body aches, fatigue. Just to name a few.
Clinical Trial
I am part of a clinical trial of 410 Silicone Breast Implants. These are called gummy bear implants due to the consistancy inside.
Finished treatment
Celebration
No doctor for 3 months!
