    Diagnosed

    Oh No

March 2011 sister started with stomach pain and dark colored urine.Went to Urgent Care and diagnosed her with a UTi and sent her home on antibiotics.Next day pain is getting worse and went to Er,sent her home on more antibiotics.Fast forward one week still exp. pain, dark colored urine and now jaundice.Back in the Er and this time she was admitted.During the next 4 days she went through a battery of test(CAT scans, bloodwork, ultrasound,ERCP)and finally on April 1st,2011 I got the terrible news no one expected......Cholangiocarcinoma....The doctor was even stumped by this diagnosis and said she need to be transferred out of that hospital to another one with more knowledge.Within 2 hours she was transferred to Barnes Hospital in St.Louis....

    Procedure or Surgery

My sister went through a battery of test during the beginning of April to confirm her diagnosis. On April 25,2011 they attempted to do a Liver Resection surgery on my sister. Two hours into the procedure the Dr. came out and told us something that was so hard to hear and totally unexpected. Her cancer had spread ....they were unable to do the surgery...She is stable and will go to recovery and remain in the hospital for the next 7 days recovering but now what????

    Went as Expected: Strongly Disagree
    Minimal Recovery: Neutral/NA

    Implant chemotherapy port

    Procedure or Surgery

April 17,2011 had a Power Port placed and her Biliary drain(placed during surgery) checked. She did great during the procedure and complained of site pain after port was placed as well as abdominal pain from the dye that was injected into the port.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

First Chemo visit was pretty uneventful.First you always do Labs, then her visit with her oncologist then to Chemo....She was always lucky to get the bed so she got to catch up on some rest and they always offer snacks(she loves the pretzels) and juice...Oh and the craft cart(she loves to paint and scrapbook). Those are the perks of Chemo....the process was fairly easy. She already had her port accessed during labs then they start her off with the nausea medication Zofran, along with Pepcid so it won't upset her stomach and then the Good Stuff...Gemcitabine and Oxaliplatin....let the Chemo kill that Cancer....
