    Maintenance or consolidation chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

OK, this may be a bit soon to report on, but I had my first round of taxol as maintenance chemo today. Higher dose than previous chemo so they administered slowly - over 4 hours. That wasn't fun but no side effects except swollen feet and face/neck flushing. First of 12 to be given every three weeks.

    Cancer is back/Recurred

    Oh No

CAT scan revealed several nodules. Right now we're discussing treatment options. I'm not surprised but so sad at this news.

    Clinical Trial No Longer Working

    Oh No

I've been on olaparib in a clinical trial for nine months now. It was working at first (tumors not growing and CA125 numbers going way down), but now my numbers are way up and the tumors have gained more than 20% in size which boots me out of the study.

    Debulking surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

This is my second debulking surgery to rid me of the new tumors. Though this one was also robotic, it was much tougher on me. I had a LOT of nausea afterward and stayed overnight in the hospital. Much more pain/discomfort.

    Anniversary of Diagnosis

    Milestones

It's four years today from my initial diagnosis. I wasn't sure I'd ever see this day (according to the stats, it was unlikely), but here I am.

    Cataracts

    Oh No

I now have two types of chemo-induced cataracts. Nothing that's impacting my vision yet but fun for the future. My vision, at 62.5 years of age, is still 20/20 though which is good news.

    Blood Clot

    Oh No

Pulmonary embolism. Yup, Friday night I had horrid chest pains, went to the ER, and ended up admitted to the hospital. Multiple EKGs, a CT scan, a cardiac stress test, and more vitals checks than I can count and I'm home. I have a few new medications and an appointment with my oncologist of Friday. She DID come by to visit me on Saturday morning which was nice. Can I just say that while the cardiac nurses were great, they did get a bit freaked out about the fact that I'd just had chemo on Thursday. So I emptied my own bedpan and recorded my own urine to spare them possible exposure. They were more enthusiastic about my port though as it saved them from having to poke me multiple times to take labs.
