    MRI

    Oh No

I went in for an MRI and the doctor told my parents and I that I had three brain lesions, that looked liked cancer. I had a cat scan, mammogram, a biopsy and an ultrasound done that day.

    Diagnosed

    Oh No

I was diagnosed in April with Stage 4 melanoma that the doctors believe it started in my back and moved up into my brain. I have three lesions that they are currently treating.

    Dexamethasone

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

This is the steriod that I am on to shrink the swelling around the lesions. I take these 3 times a day as well. This drug makes me hungry and I have gained weight.

    Pain medicine

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I am on Hydrocodone, and I take 3 a day. The side effects are a funny taste in my mouth, thristy, and hot flashes.

    External radiation

    Radiation

This was not a good experience this time because I have gained weight so the mask doesn't fit right any more. It was really tight and it was hard to breathe. But it was the fourth treatment, 4/27/12 and I only have one more left.

    Wide excision surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

I had surgery on 5/15/12 and the doctor didn't want to put me under so it was done under local numbing agent and that hurt. A lot.

    Hospitalization

    Other Care

I had to go to the ER because of a seizure and they kept me overnight for observation. Not a fun time.

    MRI

    Other Care

I had an MRI done on Friday 5/25/12 and I got the test results back that day. One of my lesions had shrunk slightly but the swelling around it had increased which is causing my left side to become numb and weak at times. One of the lesions increased slightly but the swelling decreased so we are in the talks about removing that one. The third one didn't really change so the doctors aren't sure what to do about that one.

    MRI

    Other Care

I had a MRI done on 6/25/12 and got the test results and my oncologist is concerned about one of the brain lesions because it looks like it has gotten bigger. But she can't really tell if it is really bigger or if the swelling has increased around the lesion. I am meeting with my radiation doctor tomorrow, 6/28/12, and hopefully she will have more information.

    Hospitalization

    Other Care

The doctors found a blood clot in my right calf so I had a filter put in through my neck in case the blood clot broke up, it wouldn't travel to my lungs. So I spent July 3rd and the morning of the 4th in the hospital for observation. I am now on a blood thinners and I have to give my self shots in the belly, at least until after the surgery.

Surgery to remove cancer that has spread

    Procedure or Surgery

I had surgery to remove 2 tumors from my brain. I was in the hospital from Friday the 27th to Tuesday the 31st. Spent 2 nights in ICU and then went to a normal room. I have about 15 stitches in my head and I am really surprised how much I can do. I can shower and wash my hair.

    Cancer has spread/Metastasized

    Oh No

The cancer has spread and there is a spot in my liver, a spot in my back muscle on my left side and a new spot in my brain. So they took out two spots in my brain and the cancer replaced one of them. My doctors are getting us in touch with MD Anderson in Houston.

    Oh No

The doctors have told us that I have 6 months to a year before I lose my battle to cancer.
